Weightlifting belt by RXpursuit
A weightlifting belt is often used during heavy strength exercises such as squats or during weightlifting. At RXpursuit we have developed a belt made of the best material, nylon. You're on the right track if you're looking for the best weightlifting belt to complement your strength training and/or weightlifting.
What is a weightlifting belt?
A weightlifting belt is a sturdy belt worn around the waist to support the lower back and abdomen during heavy strength exercises. By increasing intra-abdominal pressure, the belt helps create a more stable core, which protects the spine and can support the athlete in safely lifting heavier weights, primarily during exercises such as deadlifts, squats and weightlifting.

Why buy a weightlifting belt?
- Purpose: The main function of the weightlifting belt is to increase intra-abdominal pressure. By pushing against the belt with the abdominal muscles during a heavy elevator, a more stable core is created. This helps protect the spine and can enable the athlete to lift heavier weights.
- Design: Weight lifting belts are typically made of leather or sturdy synthetic materials. They can vary in width, but are generally wider in the back (to support the lower back) and narrower in the front.
- When to use: It is recommended to use the weightlifting belt especially during exercises where a large load is placed on the lower back, such as deadlifts, squats and overhead presses.
- When not to use: It is usually unnecessary (and sometimes counterproductive) to use a weightlifting belt for exercises with lighter weights, exercises that isolate the core or movements where the belt may impede movement.
- Advantages and disadvantages: Using a weightlifting belt can improve performance and reduce injury, but excessive and unnecessary use can lead to impaired core muscle development.
- How to wear: The belt should be worn tight enough for the athlete to press his or her abdomen against the belt, but not so tight that it restricts breathing or movement.
A weight lifting belt is a useful tool for those doing strength training, especially with heavy weights. However, as with all exercise equipment, it is important to know how and when to use it correctly to gain the maximum benefits and avoid potential drawbacks. If you are considering purchasing or using a weight lifting belt, it may be advisable to seek advice from an experienced coach or trainer.
Difference between a standard weightlifting belt and a crossfit belt
A traditional weightlifting belt and a CrossFit-specific weightlifting belt differ primarily in design and purpose, to meet the unique requirements of each type of workout. Here are the main differences:Traditional weightlifting belts tend to be wider (especially at the back) and thicker. This provides maximum support during heavy elevators such as squats and deadlifts. CrossFit belts are generally thinner and more even in width, making them more flexible and less restrictive during varied workouts that may include gym elements or cardio in addition to weightlifting. Many CrossFit belts have a quick fastener, such as a Velcro strap, which allows the user to quickly take the belt on and off between different exercises in a workout. Traditional belts often have a buckle or lever closure, which is sturdier but also takes more time to adjust. While traditional belts are primarily designed for maximum support during heavy elevators, CrossFit belts are designed with versatility in mind. They should be comfortable enough to wear during a range of exercises, from weightlifting to running to box jumps. Although both traditional and CrossFit belts can be made of leather or synthetic materials, you'll more often see CrossFit belts made of flexible materials, such as nylon, because of the need for mobility.
So there are obvious differences between the two types of belts, however, the choice of belt largely depends on personal preference and specific training needs. Someone who wants to focus on both heavy weightlifting and CrossFit may even consider having both types of belts in their equipment. At RXpursuit, we have developed a belt that can be used for both weightlifters and CrossFit athletes.
